Welcome Prospective and Returning Drumline Members!
Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the 2025 University of Minnesota Marching Band for our 134th year of community, tradition, pride, family, and performance.
If you're interested in joining the Drumline and haven't contacted us yet, please email [email protected].
Fall 2025 Drumline Auditions are April 26 starting at 9 AM in the Marching Band facility at Huntington Bank Stadium. We will also have an optional rehearsal on April 25 from 7 - 9 PM in the same location.
Snare Drum players must be able to play Traditional Grip. If you're practicing for Multi-Tenor Drums, our five shell sizes are 6", 10", 12", 13", and 14". Information on Traditional Grip and other Drumming Basics are available at the bottom of this page.
Everyone will sign up for an audition time at 9:00 AM on audition day. People auditioning on Cymbals will demonstrate techniques, perform sight reading alone, and play music taught in the moment with ensembles and duets. People auditioning on Bass Drum will perform sight reading alone, demonstrate basic skills, perform a duet with a metronome, and rotate in ensembles performing music taught in the moment. People auditioning on Snare Drum and Multi-Tenors will perform Ski-U-Mah in a solo and duet and perform sight-reading.
Click here to download "Ski-U-Mah" for Snare and Multi-Tenor Auditions.
Keep in mind when planning your Fall class schedule during the football season, the Drumline rehearses from 7 PM - 10 PM every Wednesday night in addition to the regular Marching Band rehearsal schedule.
The entrance to the Marching Band facility is located under the "Pope" County marker in the Northeast corner of the stadium. Everyone who wants to audition must be present at 9:00 AM for a very brief informational meeting and to sign up for an audition time.
The best option for Campus Parking near the stadium is in the Maroon Lot. Otherwise, there are many options for travel and parking on audition day. If you don't mind walking about a mile you can park for free on the streets of the Dinkytown neighborhood less than a mile West of the stadium. If you're staying at a hotel there may be Public Transportation Options that are more convenient. If you choose to walk to the stadium and don't want to be alone on campus, please call 612-624-WALK and they can arrange for someone to accompany you.
If you are unable to join us for Auditions but are interested in performing in the Drumline, please contact Kelley Lima at [email protected] as soon as possible to make alternative audition plans.
If you have questions about Marching Band, or specifically about Drumline, you can visit our FAQ page and the University of Minnesota Marching Band website, contact Kelley Lima and the Leaders, or email the marching band office at [email protected].
